Surya Garg
Surya Garg is a born and bred New Yorker who has always been passionate about fashion, sustainability, entertainment, and inclusion. She began her career in entertainment and finance working at A24 Films and Morgan Stanley before leaving to found her own clothing brand, Soara NYC. Soara NYC was inspired by the duality of her upbringing, both as a girl who was living in the heart of fashion in Manhattan and as the daughter of two South Asian immigrants. She created the brand to celebrate her heritage and build a bridge between her two worlds: her sun and her moon. The collection is a nod to the multicultural identities that exist across the globe, each piece represents the balance between the vibrance of India and the edge of New York. The brand operates on a pre-order model and is committed to promoting sustainable and slow fashion.
1. What event would you love to attend?
I would love to attend the Oscars! That has been my dream since I was probably 3 years old.
2. What are your hosting must haves?
A disposable camera and a fantastic playlist.
3. What's the best party you've ever been to?
My 7th grade birthday party. My mom did a Hunger Games theme, and it ended in a huge Nerf gun fight—I still have not topped that one. A close second was the Forbes Functions Hamptons Bash last August.
